VICKY&SPARKLE;;
The petite ebony hooves flicked soil off the ground with every stride. The tiny sooty legs hardly covered much ground as the horse and rider picked their way through the worn trail. Trees loomed over the path, giving the pair shade in the afternoon sun. Vicky smiled as she looked won at her steeds neck. Well her pony's neck. He was only 12.3 hands and although she was small herself she would only do light work with him. He was too adorable to break. Vicky had had Sparkle for many years now, he was 14 and she'd had him as a 4 year old. He had been her first proper pony, apart from old Peanuts of course. He had died 2 years ago, bless his little cotton socks. The grand age of 34. He had had a good life and a good retirement as far as she was concerned. But she still had Sparkle and would hopefully still have him by the time her kids arrived. Vicky had also acquired a new member of her four legged family. 6 year old Vivi. Her first ever mare and how sometimes she wished she was a gelding. It would make life so much easier. It was why she had decided to bring Sparkle out on the trails instead of Vivi. Vivi would of decked her by now and ran off with some roaming wild herd. Or something along those lines. And although Sparkle was a stallion, he took everything in his stride.
Texas was everything that Vicky had never seen before, it was such a beautiful place, high up on the trails. Her brown eyes scanned the scenery, drama was unfolding between the birds high up in their nests. The sound of gushing river water wasn't far off and Sparkle seemed to notice this, with his ears pricked towards the sound. "Good idea" Vicky told the little stallion. "Time for a rest." The girl nudged the dapple grey's sides and set off into a trot towards the sound of the river. She saw it ahead of them and cut around a few of the trees, coming off the dusty trail. She slowed Sparkle to a walk and meandered along the rivers edge until she came to a shallower end, which would just come above Sparkles pastern. Patting her horse Vicky dismounted, twisted her reins and let Sparky wander into the river on his own accord.
The little pony wandered straight in, stepping his fore hooves in first to bend his head and drink from the river, the cool water sliding down his throat which he welcomed on this hot day. He finished drinking and stood for a while in the water, then he looked over his shoulder to his girl. Victoria had sat down in the shade, sitting under one of the trees. "I can't be bothered to carry on, shall we sit down for a bit boy?" She asked him as if she would get a response. Sparkle walked over and let out a soft blow of air onto her face. Vicky giggled and nodded. She stood up and reached for his saddle, she undid his girth and slipped his saddle off. She then delved into her saddle bag and pulled out a lunge line and a head collar. She didn't really need it but it was just a precaution, what if something spooked him and he bolted? She slipped off his bridle and replaced it with his head collar. She clipped the lunge line to the halter and lead him to the tree next to hers. There she tied the lunge line and patted her pony. Immediately Sparkle stuck his head to the ground and began to graze, his ears twitching on top of his head. Vicky smiled and sat back down and pulled out a book form the saddle bag and began to read. Safe in the knowledge that Sparky was content.
