the morning air escaped from xen's mouth in puffs, it was around five am and in these times she found the nights were blindingly cold and the days were blazingly hot. so she had decided to call up her friend - or as much as a friend that xenomine considered - skyler and decide to run around abit with her. truth be told the girls got along well, sky's laid back manner complimented xen's hot tempered and high strung ways and the two girls often found contentment in each other's company. both were deathly possessive over their equines and both determined to be the best; outside of the ring they would share a coffee but inside competition sky became xen's biggest enemy. ( probably heightened by their friendship outside of the ring. ) She had won against her and of course Sky had beat Xen a couple times and sometimes both of them were left in the dust. Though today's events were a casual jog through the woods, which would probably escalate into jumping the cross country jumps dotting the trails and soon dodge into a friendly match of who was better than who, and that was what Xen wanted right now.
Of course Colette was more than ready for the morning workout. Xenomine found herself fighting the mare the whole time she attempted to wrap her legs in supportive polo wraps and when she went to tighten the girth Colette reached around and grabbed her biceps and squeezed. Slapping the mare across the muzzle and furrowing her brows in irritation Xen allowed herself a deep breath as she shook her head and concentrated on the lively black mare. Colette had been her partner from the moment she had began this whole horse thing two years ago, she bought the then four year old filly right off the race track with absolutely no idea how to ride or take care of a horse. Now with many dubious hours spent bonding in with the mare and beginning to learn how to ride such a difficult catch she found herself being able to ride through her obnoxious hissy fits she frequently pulled and the other odd antics she attempted to try and sway Xen's confidence in not only her riding abilities - but herself.
Collecting the reins in her gloved hands Xenomine stuck the toe of her tall boot into the glimmering stirrups of her saddle and swung her slender legs to seat herself into the leather object. Shifting her weight and becoming comfortable Colette was already walking toward the exit of the yard toward the trail head, the mare knew Xen to a "t" and she chuckled as she steered the mare away from the trail head. Calves squeezing her into a trot as Colette snorted and snapped her neck so her lips were brought to her chest, sinew rippling as Xen kept the mare collected and balanced beneath her as she stretched her equines well-formed muscles as she waited for Skyler to happen upon them.

Sky was accustomed to early mornings. She had lived he whole life in Texas and knew the best time to ride as early morning or after the sun went down. This also worked out when it came to her other favorite pass time...they pool. She was a sun worshiper but never went to the extremes of fake n' baking. Orange just wasn't her color. Yawning Sky reached under Juicy's spotted barrel and fumbled with the standing martingale. This has become a life saver on trails and cross-country. Buckling the throat latch she unclipped the cross-ties and led the mare into the yard.
The second Juicy caught wind of Colette she let out a ear screeching whinny. Shacking her head she rechecked the girth and pulled her irons down. Swinging swiftly into the saddle Sky made the mare connect with the bit and forget about the other horse. Both were used to this, the countless horse shows have taught Sky a few lessons about her mare being buddy sour. Sinking into her heels she squeezed with her calves, pushing Juicy into the bridle. Once in frame she made a few smaller circles at the trot until Juicy settled into frame and stopped fighting the bit. Sitting down she squeezed back on the reins and slowed the mare to a stop. Relaxing her legs and hands she looked over "Ready?"
Riding with Xen has become second nature. They've gone to shows, had lessons, and gone on trails together more times then she could count. Most people would see them as extremely good friends but they both understood their friendship; friends outside the ring and complete enemies inside the ring. Sky wasn't looking for a best friend any why...she didn't believe in them.
